GOWN VERSUS DRESS

Okay, so . . . is there really a difference between a wedding gown and a wedding dress? I mean you hear designers and savvy merchandisers referring to what you wear on your big day as either gown or dress. So which is it?

Defined, gowns are anything to the floor and definitely ones with trains and/or extensions are considered super gown-worthy. For me the gown at its quintessential best is 'Harlowesque' lean-lined and clingy, something Hollywood designers borrowed for evening wear from sexy nightgowns back in the 1930s (hence comes the gown). The dress on the other hand can be any silhouette--even a ballgown--as long as it's ankle length or above. A good example of ballgown silhouette as dress is in the second image directly above. BTW my favorite length and silhouette for bridal wear right now is Ballerina, just above the ankles and very full . . .

Sunday 66

by Amanda Bevington

INSPIRATION SUNDAY

Dress Azac Clothing Company

O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?
O, stay and hear; your true love's coming,
That can sing both high and low:
Trip no further, pretty sweeting;
Journeys end in lovers meeting,
Every wise man's son doth know.
What is love? 'Tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure:
In delay there lies not plenty;
Then, come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
Youth's a stuff will not endure.

Creative and Informal Beach Wedding Dress Ideas For the Bride and Groom!

There are so many fun choices that the bride can make for her beach wedding dresses when the plan is for a casual wedding. With a truly informal beach wedding dress you could even take the idea of Pam Anderson and wear a swimsuit in the colours you pick for the beach wedding them, and cover it with a sarong, or soft translucent caftan style sheath dress. Even the men can wear caftans over their more informal swimwear that way. This calls for an informal beach wedding dress for the bride and groom, especially if you're having the wedding at the beach where practicality is more important than fashion.

So, how do you find the perfect beach wedding attire for men? You'll have to find out what style suits the groom. What about his dress size? .Follow the theme. Naturally, the wedding is beach-themed. However you want the groom's wedding attire to be, you'll have to make sure it fits the theme. If you are choosing a 'flower-power' Hippie theme with beads and flowers the caftan is perfect for the men as well as the women, and are naturally flattering for all body shapes. For the Tropical Island theme its simple to pick a Hawaiian style bright patterned shirt and comfortable trousers or board shorts worn with simple open sandals.

It's his wedding after all. Finding the perfect informal beach wedding dress won't be worth anything if he doesn't want to wear it on the wedding day. In many cases, when you look at the wedding photos of the beach wedding attire for men, you see that the men simply wear trousers with shirt unbuttoned at the neck, sometimes with a vest left open, and sandals without socks. The colors can be sand themed soft linens, or simple black trousers, white shirt and even a bright colored vest in red for example if using a bright theme, or gypsy theme for your informal beach wedding dress.

How to Include Color in Your Wedding Gown

Wedding gowns are more eclectic and beautiful than ever these days. One beautiful way to spice up your bridal gown is with color. The gown itself can be in a hue other than white, or touches of color can be added to a white background. If a bride just loves pink, maybe she would be happiest in a lustrous satin gown in the palest of pinks. Certain skin tones will absolutely glow in a soft gold wedding gown. For a very traditional bride, choosing a gown in a color besides white or ivory may feel too risky, but there are other ways to get a little pop of color into your ensemble.

Long tails in the back of the gown add drama during the ceremony, and then can be bustled up with the gown for the reception. Delicate floral embroidery covering the bodice of a gown is beautiful in a pale blue or pink. A very hot trend right now is bold scrollwork designs embroidered in black thread on a white gown. Brides who choose that look often like to have the motif from their gown repeated on the wedding cake. I have also seen magnificent hand embroidery around the necklines of simple silk gowns.

Whatever color you choose, carry it into a stunning set of crystal bridal jewelry for a beautifully coordinated result. A dash of color in your wedding accessories is also a fun way to jazz up an all-white gown. One of the most innovative uses of color I ever saw was in the custom wedding gown worn by a ballroom dancer. The gown was created from layers of white silk chiffon and fluid silk crepe. Underneath all of the white layers of the skirt was a final layer of silk crepe in true red.

When the bride walked down the aisle, she was a vision in white, with little flashes of red peeking out as the layers of her gown flowed and floated. It was an incredible wedding gown. Adding a dash of color to your bridal gown is a terrific way to make the dress reflect your personality.
